Date of Decision:

Decision Maker:

(Including Job Title)

Simon Moss, Assistant Director of Regeneration and Environment

Specific Delegation:

(If any)

None specified.

Brief Description of Decision:

The area proposed at Bradgate to implement a 20mph limit was suggested as part of the Neighbourhood Safety Scheme fund, as pedestrians use this route to access three nearby schools. It will also better reflect and indicate to users the speed at which it is safer to travel throughout this area

To enable this the Assistant Director of Planning, Regeneration and Transport has exercised his delegated powers and approves in principle the proposals shown on Drawing Number NSS/RW01/20/02 and gives authority for:

1.    The usual statutory consultations to be undertaken including consultation with the local Ward Councillors and Cabinet Member.

2.    The Assistant Director of Legal Services to prepare the draft Order and notices.

3.    The proposals to be advertised.

4.    The Order to be made subject to be there being no objections received.

Reasons for the Decision:

The scheme has been developed following a suggestion made to the Neighbourhood safety scheme fund to reduce the speed limit on certain roads in the Bradgate area.

Three seven-day traffic speed surveys have been undertaken to establish speeds of vehicles using Bradgate Lane, Fellowsfield Way and Manor Approach.  It is considered that when adjustment is made for the higher speeds noted recently, and whilst traffic levels are significantly lower due to the Covid 19 situation, the  results listed in the main report are commensurate with the proposed speed limit of 20mph.

Details of alternative options considered and rejected:

Following the receipt of a submission to the Neighbourhood Road Safety Schemes Programme Fund by Elected Members to reduce the speed limit within the Bradgate area, traffic and speed surveys have been undertaken to progress the submission made.

Conflicts of interest declared by any Executive Member consulted by the decision maker which relates to the decision:

None.

Dispensations Granted:

(If any)

Not applicable
