Decision:

To approve the package of Financial Support to Households affected by Storm Babet. That will include for properties that were flooded or where the property was unliveable for a period of time as a result of this flood incident:

·       a £350 grant direct to each flooded household;

·       a promise that those households do not have to pay any Council Tax for the period from 21st October until at least the end of March 2024.

Reasons for the Decision:

Following the flooding event within the Borough on the 21st October 2023 and its significant impact on a number of households, the Council is providing some immediate financial support to those residents most impacted.

The Council recognises the significant impact that this flooding will have on those residents most impacted and as such seeks to provide the support it can.

Details of alternative options considered and rejected:

Different qualifying criteria options were considered and the approach to providing the grants, for example via an application process, however these were ruled out as the Council wished to provide the support as quickly as possible to residents in need of the support. Instead a direct payment method is to be used based on the information the Council gained during the flood.
