To welcome attendees and introduce any new Members.

The Chair welcomed all the attendees and invited them to introduce themselves.

To appoint a Chair of SACRE for the 2021/22 academic year.

Hannah Lambert was elected as Chair of Rotherham SACRE for the 2021/22 academic year.

To appoint a Vice-Chair of SACRE for the 2021/22 academic year.

Tricia Williams was elected Vice-chair of Rotherham SACRE for the 2021/22 academic year.

To review and approve the minutes of the previous meeting held on 9 February 2021 as a true and accurate record of the proceedings.

The minutes from the last meeting on 09 February 2021 were approved as a true and accurate record of the proceedings.

To receive declarations of interest from any members with respect to an item of business.

Mrs. A. Benbow declared a personal interest as a school governor.

To determine whether any items on the agenda require the exclusion of members of the public or press.

There were no matters of business for which it was deemed necessary to exclude members of the public or press.

To receive for endorsement the updated Religious Education Agreed Syllabus for Rotherham.

Consideration was given to the progress of the working group. The working group required more time to consider the final portion of the revised syllabus. A summary of the updates was provided by the Chair. Suggestions were offered as to the treatment of current issues and religious views in the updated syllabus. A launch conference date was suggested.

Resolved:-

1.    That the updated 2021 syllabus be submitted to the next meeting for endorsement.

2.    That the Chair liaise with the relevant partners as necessary to identify a suitable date for the Conference.

To consider and discuss potential updates to the 2014 version of the Rotherham SACRE Constitution.

Consideration was given to the 2016 version of the Rotherham SACRE Constitution. Members discussed the representation of the Local Authority (Group D). Historic difficulties achieving quorum were described. The various categories and requirements of membership were also described.

Resolved:-

1.    That an updated membership list be prepared in accordance with the requirements outlined in the Constitution and submitted to the next meeting for endorsement.

To determine any items which the Chair is of the opinion should be considered as a matter of urgency.

There were no items of urgent business requiring determination at the meeting.

The next virtual meeting of the Rotherham Standing Advisory Council for Religious Education will be held on 23 September 2021, commencing at 4pm.
