ELECTION OF CHAIRMAN

Minutes:

Resolved:- That Councillor Gwendoline Ann Russell be  elected Chairman of the Rotherham Borough  Council for the ensuing  Municipal Year and that she be  entitled to  the  style  of  Mayor  by  virtue  of Section 245(1)  of  the  Local  Government Act 1972.

Councillor G. A. Russell thereupon made and subscribed the statutory declaration of acceptance of office.

2.

Vote of Thanks to the Retiring Mayor

Minutes:

Resolved:- That  the Council  tender its  sincere  thanks to  Councillor Allan Jackson for the  excellent manner in  which he has  carried out  all his duties as Mayor of the Metropolitan Borough of Rotherham. 

 

And that the best thanks of this Council be recorded for the kind and admirable way in which Yvonne Jackson performed the duties of Mayoress.

Election of Vice-Chairman

Minutes:

Resolved:- That  Councillor Shaukat Ali be  elected Vice-Chairman  of the Rotherham   Borough Council for  the ensuing municipal year  and that  he  be entitled to  the style  of Deputy Mayor  by virtue  of section  245(1) of the Local Government Act 1972.

Communications

Minutes:

(1)  The Chief Executive submitted the following petitions:-

 

·              From 91 residents of Rotherham objecting to Home Care Service privatisation.

·              From 13 residents of Lilian Street and Westgate House regarding anti-social behaviour on the Car Park at Lilian Street, Rotherham.

 

Resolved:- That the petitions be referred to the appropriate Cabinet Member for consideration.

Scheme of Delegation 2008/09

Minutes:

Consideration was given to the existing Scheme of Delegation of Powers to Members and Officers.

 

Resolved:- That the existing Delegation of Powers Scheme be continued for 2008/09.

Minutes:

Councillor Stone presented a report by the Assistant Chief Executive, Legal and Democratic Services, relating to the appointment of Parish Council representatives to the Standards Committee, thus increasing the number of Parish Council representatives on the Standards Committee from one to three. 

 

Resolved:-  That Councillors Alan Buckley of Brinsworth Parish Council, Dennis Bates of Thrybergh Parish Council and James Sharman of Aston-cum-Aughton Parish Council be appointed as Parish Council representatives on the Standards Committee.
