Exclusion of the press and public

Minutes:

Resolved:-  That, under Section 100A(4) of the Local Government Act 1972, the press and public be excluded from the meeting for the following item of business on the grounds that it involves the likely disclosure of exempt information as defined in Paragraph 8 of Part I of Schedule 12A to the Local Government Act 1972 (proposed costs for the provision of work/supply of service).

2.

The Funding of Public and Private Sector Adaptations

(Exempt under Paragraphs 4, 5 and 8 of the Act – report contains information relating to services provided by the Council/applications for financial assistance/provision of work or supply of goods or services)

Minutes:

The Acting Principal Grants Officer and Occupational Therapy Manager submitted a joint report highlighting the current financial situation with regard to the provision of adaptations in the private and public sectors.

The previously identified discretionary funding (private sector) for 2004/05 was insufficient to meet the anticipated requirement for the current year.  It was not possible to accurately project the specific amount due to the provision of adaptations being demand led.  It was estimated, however, that approximately £150,000 would be required to maintain service delivery in the current year with at least a similar amount being required in subsequent years.

The public sector adaptations allocation was currently over committed with additional funding required to maintain service delivery in providing adaptations for disabled tenants in order to fulfil the Council’s duty to meet the needs of disabled people.  At the present time it was estimated that up to £1.5M (£1M existing allocation) may be required to maintain the current service delivery.

Resolved:-  That a report be submitted to the Cabinet requesting consideration be given to the granting of additional funding for the purpose of adaptations and fulfilling the Council’s obligations.
