Resolved:- That, under Section 100A(4) of the Local Government Act 1972, the press and public be excluded from the meeting for the following item of business on the grounds that it involves the likely disclosure of exempt information as defined in Paragraphs 1 and 11 of Part I of Schedule 12A to the Local Government Act 1972 (negotiations with trades unions)

Further to Minute No. 2 of a meeting of the Negotiating Panel held on 28th July, 2005, the Committee considered a report by the Head of Human Resources updating Members on the outcome of the negotiations with the trades unions regarding the settlement of the compensation element of the equal pay challenge.

The report covered the equal pay challenge, compensation matrix, settlement details, timescales, financial implications and ongoing debate regarding additional groups/employees to be included under the compensation payment matrix.

Resolved:- That approval be given to

(1) the current direction in respect of the compensation payments;

(2) the response now discussed to those employees who have not yet accepted the compensation offered to them;

(3) the funding arrangements, now discussed, to cover the total compensation package.
