Exclusion of the Press and Public

Minutes:

Resolved:- That, under Section 100A(4) of the Local Government Act 1972, the press and public be excluded from the meeting for the following item of business on the grounds that it involves the likely disclosure of exempt information as defined in Paragraph 1 of Part I of Schedule 12A to the Local Government Act 1972 (staffing matters).

Equal Pay Issues

Minutes:

The Assistant Chief Executive, Human Resources, presented the submitted report and provided more in-depth information relating to the legal challenge made by a number of employees, and the discussions taking place with Counsel in advance of the Employment Tribunal scheduled for the 20th August, 2007.

 

The report covered specific information about the challenges of the Equal Pay agenda, the formal claims through the Equal Pay legislation, the Council’s defence of the Equal Pay claims and the options for dealing with the disputes.

 

In addition, confirmation was also sought to the virement of monies to the School Meals Service arising from a previous decision made by the Staffing Committee.

 

Resolved:- (1) That the attempt to achieve a settlement of the Tribunal claims, on terms acceptable to the Council, be supported and approved.

 

(2) That the virement of £55,000 of corporate funding to the Schools Meals Trading Account be approved.
