Minutes:

Consideration was given to a report, presented by the Waste Strategy Manager, outlining the planned improvement programme for all four of the Council’s Household Waste Recycling Centres to be undertaken during the Financial Years 2009/10 and 2010/11.

Reference was made to recent inspections by the Environment Agency who identified some inadequacies at the Council’s four sites.  As a result an initial Improvement Plan had been drawn up for each site.

It was explained that work was scheduled to commence at the Warren Vale site which would require the closure of the site for up to two months.  This would be followed by Car Hill.  Both Lidget Lane and Magilla sites would be scheduled for improvement in 2010/2011.

Costs would be met from the Waste Infrastructure Capital Grant received from DEFRA, details of which were set out in the submitted report.

Those present discussed ways of informing members of the public about these improvements.

It was also noted that Permit Holders would be directed to and accommodated at an alternative facility and that during the site closures CCTV and regular inspections would continue in the immediate surroundings to discourage fly tipping.

Resolved:-  (1)  That the closure of Warren Vale Household Waste Recycling Centre for improvement works on 13th July 2009 for a period of up to 2 months be approved.

(2)  That the programme for improvement of all of the Council’s Household Waste Recycling Centres be undertaken during the financial year 2009/2010 and 2010/2011.
