Minutes: Further to Minute No. 74 of the joint meeting of the Cabinet Member for Economic Development, Planning and Transportation and the Cabinet Member for Streepride held on 12th June, 2009, consideration was given to a report, presented by the Parking Services Manager, setting out details of the proposals for parking arrangements for the Regimental Parade, through the Town Centre, by the Yorkshire Regiment on 23rd June, 2010.
The report detailed the following:-
- coach parking on Mansfield Road - closure of Douglas Street car park for the duration of the event - Town Centre parking to be free after 10 a.m. to the public on 23rd June, 2010 - loss of income from car parking revenue - risks and uncertainties - time restrictions to remain and enforced - commuter parking - publicity, including town centre and shoppers newsletters
Resolved:- That approval be given to the proposals for amendments to parking restrictions for 23rd June, 2010. |

Petition regarding free parking PDF 45 KB Martin Beard, Parking Services Manager, to report. - to consider the response to the petition. Minutes: Further to Minute No. 99(1) of the meeting of the Council held on 21st April, 2010, consideration was given to a report presented by the Parking Services Manager, detailing and responding to a petition, containing 402 signatures, which asked for the first two hours parking to be free in Rotherham Town Centre. It was pointed out that the current charges for car parking were set out in Minute No. 35 of the meeting of the Cabinet Member for Streetpride held on 1st March, 2010.
Reference was made to the following:-
- the Yorkshire and Humberside Regional Transport Strategy - the South Yorkshire Local Transport Plan – commitments towards public transport and sustainable travel modes - affect on relationship with neighbouring local authorities - current town centre parking initiatives:- “Free after 3”; Free parking on Saturdays; Maximum stay parking bays - operation of “Free Bee” free bus - impact on town centre business - impact on bus operators - cost in lost parking revenue - impact on Parking Services - impact of the overall Council budget
Resolved:- (1) That, in the light of the initiatives currently in operation, as detailed above, the petitioners’ request be not acceded to and the lead petitioner be informed of the decision and reasons why.
(2) That parking charges remain as set out in the report approved on 1st March, 2010. |
