As this is within the allocated budget then the decision can be made by the Executive Director under the powers above.

Decision:

To commence a small grants scheme to reimburse eligible Groups for the purchase of a flagpole and either a Union flag, a St Georges flag or both flags, and the installation costs of these up to a total cost of £500.

Applications will be considered from Town, Parish and Community Councils and community groups, Borough wide, who own or lease a building or land for use by the Group and hence have a fixed business location or base.

Eligible groups will be responsible for the purchase, installation, maintenance, replacement, and safety matters along with any Planning requirements.

Payment will be reimbursed on receipt of a valid application and provision of relevant receipts which relate to purchase and installation only.

The deadline for receipt of an application and supporting receipts will be 30^th June 2026.

Applications via an online process on the Council Website.

Reasons for the Decision:

To promote community pride and encourage local groups to celebrate national identity and heritage. By supporting the installation of flagpoles and flags, it is hoped to create visible symbols of unity and civic pride across the borough.

It was considered whether the grant should be applied to any type of flag but determined that the chosen flags best meet the aims of the grant scheme.
