Speed Bumps Through South Anston

We the undersigned petition the council to To see the installation of speed bumps throughout South Anston to ensure safety of residents.

This petition is to request the installation of speed bumps in the South Anston area along High Street, Sheffield Road, Lockwood Avenue, Hawthorne Avenue and Crowgate.
These areas are major routes for foot traffic, especially for Anston Hillcrest school children and their families. This area is also busy for vehicles, especially during rush hours.

Sheffield Road (from Lidsters Lane to Worksop Road) is a two way road which is relatively narrow due to cars parking continuously on both sides and on double yellow lines. Due to this traffic can only travel one way at any given time. The road curves enough in numerous locations to inhibit the view of oncoming traffic and pedestrians crossing.

High Street (from Sheffield Road to Crowgate) is partly one way/partly both ways and is very narrow due to cars parking both sides of the road and on pavements, inhibiting the view of oncoming traffic and pedestrians crossing. Again this road is curved also inhibiting the view further to oncoming traffic and pedestrians crossing.

Lockwood Avenue and Hawthorne Avenue sees a lot of foot traffic due to Anston Hillcrest Primary School being off Hawthorne Avenue and families living locally, using these roads as their main access to the school. Local residents also use these areas as access to the local businesses on Sheffield Road, crossing High Street to get to them.

Crowgate is a direct route into South Anston from Kiveton and sees numerous vehicles speeding through the village despite the change in speed limit at the end of Dog Kennels Lane. Again cars are parked on both sides of the road inhibiting the views of oncoming traffic and pedestrians crossing. Though this road does not see as much foot traffic as the others previously mentioned, there is an increased amount of speeding cars through this section of the village.

Sheffield Road is also seen as a speedy cut through to avoid the traffic lights on Worksop Road. This is encouraging drivers not known to the village to speed through on Sheffield Road at all hours of the day in order to gain a few seconds in their journey.

All of these areas see an increase in vehicles during school pick up/drop off times. The amount of drivers speeding through the village with no concern for others is significant and needs to be controlled on order to ensure the safety of local residents and school children.
