petition details

Sheffield Lane Rat Run

We the undersigned petition the council to prevent vehicles going the wrong way down a one way system and to enforce the Access Only Guidance. Solutions could include speed bumps, cameras or a complete blocking off of the No Entry.

Sheffield Lane has a NO ENTRY sign at it's western entrance. The eastern entrance is designated as ACCESS ONLY for residents. Vehicles regularly speed through the No Entry and go down what is in the main a single lane road. Vehicles regularly access the lane in the opposite direction and go through to Poplar Way.

This petition ran from 12/10/2020 to 15/01/2021 and has now finished.

97 people signed this petition.

Mr Pete DeVeaux

Dear Mr DeVeaux

Sheffield Lane Rat Run

Thank you for your recent petition asking that the Council takes action against drivers that you feel are abusing the current restrictions on traffic movement on Sheffield Lane at Catcliffe. Those restrictions being a ‘No Entry’ for traffic from Poplar Way and a ‘Prohibition of Driving except for access’ from Orgreave Road.

Whilst the Council acknowledges road users’ frustrations about traffic abusing these restrictions enforcement of moving traffic restrictions rather than yellow line parking restrictions is one undertaken by South Yorkshire Police.
Therefore, in the first instance we will forward your concerns and those of your fellow petitioners to South Yorkshire Police for them to give consideration to the points you raise.
However, we will also look into the points you raise about making the restrictions more conspicuous and as self-regulating as possible.

Yours sincerely

Paul Woodcock Strategic Director
