Consultation on the Pharmaceutical Needs Assessment

To permit the statutory 60-day consultation on the Pharmaceutical Needs Assessment (PNA).

The PNA is a statutory document that assesses the pharmaceutical service needs of a local population. It is a statutory responsibility of the Health and Wellbeing Board to produce a PNA every three years.

It is required that the Health and Wellbeing Board consult a specified range of organisations on a draft of the pharmaceutical needs assessment at least once during the process of drafting the document. Consultees must be given a minimum period of 60 days to submit their response, beginning on the day by which they are ‘served with a draft’ of the document.

The recommended decision is for the statutory consultation to be permitted, with consultation taking place in July and August, to ensure that the deadline is met for the Health and Wellbeing Board in September.
